Jenny used a San Antonio title loan to finance a dream trip.
Ever since I can remember, I have dreamed of visiting New York City. The glitz, the glamour, the shopping – The Big Apple seemed like the ideal place to see and be seen, as well as a far cry from my hometown in Texas. After seeing countless movies and television shows set in New York, I often felt as if I had already been there. However, the fact of the matter was I had never stepped foot in the state.
I had never craned my neck to look at the towering skyscrapers above me. I had never people-watched in Rockefeller Center or admired the breathtaking views from the top of the Empire State Building. There were so many things to do in New York, a city where everything and anything seemed possible. I wanted to experience it all for myself. All of my friends and family members knew about my infatuation with NYC, so they frequently ask me why I’ve never been.
I’d like to say it’s because my high-powered job prevents me from taking time off, but I currently have two high-stress low-pay jobs. After 12-hour days on my feet, the best I can do is fantasize about wandering the tree-lined streets of Greenwich Village, because my bank account definitely doesn’t align with my travel plans. How does a twenty-something woman on a tight budget fulfill her dream of visiting The Big Apple?
The Costs of Travel
It’s no surprise travel can be expensive. There are so many things to consider, including airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, food, drink, and activities. Just thinking about the amount of money I would have to spend makes me break out in a cold sweat. To add insult to injury, New York City is notorious for being one of the most expensive cities in the world.
If I wanted to grab a hamburger for lunch, it could easily set me back $20. If I wanted to reserve a hotel room larger than a postage stamp, I would most likely need to shell out about $400 a night. As numbers swirled around in my head, I slowly came to the realization at this point in my life a trip to New York might be unattainable.
If you knew me, you’d know I don’t go down without a fight. It might just be a Texas thing. Come hell or high water, I was determined to have tea at The Plaza and stroll through Central Park with a hot dog from a sidewalk cart in my hand! With my meager budget, I knew it was going to be tricky, but I knew there had to be a quick and easy way to make my travel dreams a reality. Boy, was I right!
